New Type of Similar Material for Simulating the Processes of Water Inrush from Roof Bed Separation
ACS Omega, 5(47):30405 - 30415, 2020.
Summary
This study develops a laboratory analogue material for investigating water accumulation and inrush associated with roof-bed separation above coal workings. The mixture uses river sand as its main granular skeleton, with nanoscale calcium carbonate, calcium bentonite, gypsum, and emulsified wax as additives. Its suitability is assessed through tests of compressive strength, water permeation height, structural stability, and microscopic characteristics. A physical simulation then examines whether the material can reproduce the relevant separation and seepage processes. The purpose is to provide experimental conditions in which the development of separated strata and the movement of water can be studied together. Such analogue experiments complement theoretical and numerical investigations of mining-related water hazards and support efforts to understand, predict, and control water accidents involving roof-bed separation.
